The Ahwahnee is an ‘AAA’ four diamond hotel located within the Yosemite National Park. It is an architectural masterpiece located in the heart of the dense park and is specifically renowned for its designers attempt to highlight surrounding natural features such as Yosemite Falls, Glacier Point and Half Dome. The hotel has hosted royalties and presidents. Its perfect balance between nature, history, hospitality and elegance has put it on the top of the American hospitality industry.
The hotel came into existence upon realization by Stephen Mather, the National Park Service Director, that Yosemite National Park needed accommodation for its visitors. In July of 1925, Gilbert Stanley was chosen to design a luxury hotel for Yosemite. Its remote location made it hard to transport materials for its construction. You will note that its façade is made of concrete to avoid being destroyed by fire like the park’s earlier hotels.
Accommodation at this hotel are divided into several categories including; Yosemite Hotel Rooms, cottage Rooms, Parlors, and Junior Suites. Each of the rooms is fitted with facilities such as: widened doors, raised toilet seats, low density carpet, and grab bars in the toilet stalls. Among the services you can expect to enjoy while staying in the rooms include; valet parking, a business center with a fax machine, computer terminals, printers etc. Other services accorded to the guests include concierge services, laundry services, in-room dining among others.
For your dining options, the Ahwahnee Dining Room is equipped to impress. If you get lucky and your visit coincides with such events as the 5 course Vintners’ Holidays, the Bracebridge Dinner, or the Chefs’ Holidays; you will enjoy some of the best cuisines you can sample in the US.
To complement its award winning status, the Ahwahnee Dining Room features 34-foot high beamed ceiling, granite pillars and floor-to-ceiling windows. Other features at the restaurant include chandeliers, linen table cloths and china utensils. Apparently, the management of the Ahwahnee Dining Room insists on the dress code at the restaurant. For men, you are requested to wear collared shirts and long pants and for the ladies, you are requested to wear dresses, or skirts with blouses or long pants.
Among the recreational activities that guests engage in at the hotel include; hiking, skiing, mountaineering, photography, nature walks, shopping etc. It is the perfect weekend getaway for families and busy corporates.
