Air Canada has entered into an aircraft maintenance agreement with the Manitoba government that is expected to create up to 150 jobs in the province.
The deal will bring three of Air Canada’s aviation suppliers and partners to Manitoba and help the company avoid legal action related to the closure of Aveos Fleet Performance in 2012.
That closure cost 2,600 employees their jobs, including 1,700 in Montreal and others in Ontario and Manitoba, the Canadian Press (CP) reports.
Air Canada will help three long-standing suppliers and partners open their doors in Manitoba, including Hope Aero Propeller & Components Inc, and Airbase Services Inc., which specializes in aircraft interior equipment maintenance. Air Canada also has also agreed to lease one of its Winnipeg hangars to Cargojet Airways Ltd., CP reports.
Startup for all three companies is expected in 2017.
